SF Bay Ferry’s Redwood City Ballpark Pilot Service Launches July 28
SAN FRANCISCO | July 24, 2024 – San Francisco Bay Ferry and the Port of Redwood City today announced that tickets are available for a limited pilot service connecting Peninsula fans to Oracle Park for select upcoming San Francisco Giants games.
SF Bay Ferry will operate direct service between Redwood City and San Francisco for four upcoming afternoon games, all on Sundays. The first game with ferry service is scheduled for July 28. Limited ferry tickets remain available.
"Redwood City represents a major opportunity for ferry expansion, so we’re delighted to test the market with this special ballpark service this summer," said Seamus Murphy, Executive Director of SF Bay Ferry. "Our expansion efforts are off to a strong start with three pilot services launching this July alone. We’re eager to measure success with this pilot and explore additional avenues."
The Port of Redwood City and SF Bay Ferry are currently partnering on design and permitting for a potential future permanent ferry landing. The Port and SF Bay Ferry completed a feasibility study in 2021 finding strong potential for ferry routes connecting Redwood City to San Francisco and Oakland. This pilot service will operate at the Port’s F Dock on a temporary basis to provide data on passenger demand, travel times and other operational considerations.
"This is an exciting time in the Port’s partnership with SF Bay Ferry as we advance our future ferry terminal," stated Port of Redwood City Commission Chair Lorianna Kastrop. "The pilot ferry service to Giants games offers the community an opportunity to spend an afternoon enjoying the scenic views of our bayfront from the water while envisioning themselves riding the Redwood City ferry to work, shopping or destinations in the future. It will strengthen the future success of both the commuter ferry service and special event service. We are delighted to offer this to our residents."
The Redwood City Ballpark Pilot Service is the third pilot service launched by SF Bay Ferry in July, joining the Sea Change Hydrogen Ferry Demonstration Project and Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle.
Ferry tickets are limited due to capacity constraints and reservations are required. The trip is expected to take about one hour in each direction. Tickets are $18.75 per person each direction. Youth, senior and disabled passenger fares are $14 per person each direction. Game tickets are not included.
