Privacy Policy

The San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (“we,” “our,” “us,” or "WETA"), which operates San Francisco Bay Ferry, respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this privacy policy ("Policy"). This Policy governs your use of WETA's general websites, accessible at weta.sanfranciscobayferry.com and sanfranciscobayferry.com (collectively the "Site"). This Policy discloses our collection of information through any use of the Site. By accessing or otherwise using the Site, you acknowledge and consent to our collection and use of information as set forth in this Policy.

This Policy may be amended from time to time. The amended Policy will appear on this page and dates of amendments will appear at the bottom. Please review this Policy periodically for any changes.

Collection And Use Of Personal Information For The Site
We collect personal information from you when you choose to use certain features of the Site. You provide this personal information, if at all, on a voluntary basis. We use this information to implement the features and provide the services or information requested.

For example, the “Contact Us” page located at sanfranciscobayferry.com/contact provides, as one of its options, an online form through which to contact us. That form has blanks and dropdown menus through which you are asked to provide the following personal information:

  • Service used
  • Category of comments/concerns
  • Your first and last name
  • Your email address
  • Any information that you input into the "Your Message" field

We use this information for the purposes of soliciting feedback and responding to that feedback, as well as for the general purpose of improving the services that we provide.

Similarly, the “Sign Up for WETA Notices” feature of the Site asks you to provide your email address, first and last name, phone number and company name. We use this information to send you email updates for email list(s) you select through our third party vendor, Constant Contact. Constant Contact's collection and use of your personal information is governed by its privacy policy, accessible here.

Relatedly, the "BayAlerts Ferry Rider Notification System" feature of the Site asks you to create an account with our third party vendor, Blackboard Connect, and provide your email address, phone number, landline phone number, or TTY/TDD device. We use this information to send you ferry service alerts and news for the notification(s) you select. We reserve the right to send major service change and fare email messages to all subscribers. Blackboard Connect's collection and use of your personal information is governed by its privacy policy, accessible here.

Users may opt out of WETA Notices or BayAlerts at any time. (See Opt Out, below.)

From time to time, we may implement other features of the Site that may request similar personal information. When such features are offered, we may collect personal information such as the following:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • The ferry terminals that you travel to and from
  • A PIN or password assigned to or designated by you

We use this information to implement these features and provide the requested services.

From time to time, you may be asked to participate in an online survey and share personal information, either directly on the Site or through an online survey platform. You will be notified prior to taking the survey how your information will be used. Any information that you provide will not be shared with third parties, unless stated otherwise in the survey.

WETA does not share the personal information you provide with third parties, except when required by law or where disclosure is necessary to protect our legal rights, enforce our terms of use or other agreements, or to protect ourselves or others. For example, comments, feedback, inquiries, or any information that you provide may be considered a public record once you provide it. If we receive a Public Records Act request or subpoena, this information may be subject to public inspection and copying if not otherwise protected by federal or state law. Similarly, we may share information to reduce the risk of fraud or if someone uses or attempts to use our site for illegal reasons or to commit fraud.

Mobile App And Ticketing Services Through Third Party Vendors
From time to time, WETA may work with third party vendors or consultants that provide services to consumers or the general public that may relate to or work with the services provided by WETA. These third parties may collect your personal information when you choose to use their services, such as your first and last name, email address, phone number, travel pattern data, credit card number, and the ferry terminals that you travel to and from. These third parties' collection and use of your personal information is governed by their respective privacy policies.

While WETA does not collect this information, it may access the information to allow the services provided to you by the third parties to be accepted by or work with WETA's services. For example, WETA currently works with Hopthru, which provides mobile ticketing services through its mobile ticketing app ("Mobile Ticketing App" or "App"). Hopthru collects your personal information when you use the Mobile Ticketing App, and WETA has access to some of this information to accept tickets you purchase through the App, among other things. Hopthru's collection and use of your personal information through the App is governed by its privacy policy, accessible through its Mobile Ticketing App or here
