WETA Announces San Francisco Bay Ferry Giants Service, Lifts Capacity Limits, Adjusts Mask Requirements

SAN FRANCISCO | June 16, 2021 – On June 15, 2021, the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) lifted capacity restrictions on San Francisco Bay Ferry vessels in alignment with local and state public health guidelines.

In March 2020, WETA established maximum capacity limits on its vessels to ensure appropriate social distancing. These capacity limits were adjusted upward in May 2021 in accordance with local public health guidance as ridership grew. As of June 15, WETA’s vessels are back at full capacity.

WETA today announced that it has adjusted its mask requirements in alignment with changes to federal rules. While masks must still be worn in interior spaces on board ferries per federal transit rules, masks do not have to be worn on the outside areas of the ferries. Passengers must wear masks when boarding, disembarking and any time they are inside the ferry or ferry terminal.

Children under the age of two are exempt from mask requirements. Passengers sitting inside may briefly lower their face covering to eat or drink provided they wear their masks properly in between bites and sips.

WETA also announced its plans to relaunch Oracle Park ferry service on Friday, June 25 as the San Francisco Giants host the Oakland Athletics for a weekend series. San Francisco Bay Ferry will offer direct service for 34 regular season games, connecting the ballpark to Alameda, Oakland, and Vallejo.

Ballpark ferry tickets can be purchased at sanfranciscobayferry.com/giants. WETA will not offer direct ballpark service in 2021 for day games (with the exceptions of June 27 and July 5) and encourages fans to use regularly scheduled service at the Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal beginning in July.

For weekend afternoon games beginning on July 10, San Francisco Bay Ferry’s Ballpark Short Hop will offer a free ferry connection between the Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal and Oracle Park. Schedules will be posted at sanfranciscobayferry.com/giants in the coming weeks.
