Fares are changing July 1, 2026 across the San Francisco Bay Ferry system. Systemwide changes will include route-specific fare adjustments in FY 2027 and FY 2028, replacing the previous uniform systemwide increase of 3% per year.
These changes are announced as part of the continued implementation of our FY 2024-28 Fare Program, which permanently extended the fare changes that were made during the Pandemic Recovery Program in 2021. The Fare Program has been successful thus far, as with systemwide ridership reaching 3.2 million annual boardings, representing approximately 97% of pre-pandemic ridership. However, regional fare policy developments andfare changes by other local operators have affected the alignment of SF Bay Ferry’s fares with other transit modes.
As we continue to increase ridership, SF Bay Ferry’s goal is to ensure the long-term fiscal sustainability of public ferry services. By increasing fares by small annual increments since 2023, the agency has been able to grow fare revenues to partially offset operating cost inflation while minimizing the potential financial impact on riders. As SF Bay Ferry continues to track inflation trends and evolving regional fare policies, our agency will keep ferry services priced competitively while effectively promoting long-term fiscal sustainability, reliability and service frequency.
