Rules and Policies For Riding The Ferry
Policies for SF Bay Ferry passengers are found in the agency’s Passenger Code of Conduct, updated by the Board of Directors in November 2025. We ask that all riders follow our outlined guidelines, treat fellow passengers and SF Bay Ferry crew and staff with kindness, patience, and respect to ensure a pleasant ferry ride for all.
- Everyone must pay the fare to board
- First come, first served
- Pets must be enclosed in carriers that fit on the passenger’s lap
- No cutting in line
- Follow crew instructions
- No disruptive behavior
- No outside alcohol can be consumed on the ferry
- No smoking or vaping anywhere
- No weapons or explosives
- Riders must be fully clothed to ride.

Amazing Views and Comfortable Seating
There is a seat for every passenger onboard San Francisco Bay Ferry. This includes comfortable indoor seats as well as outdoor areas.
On the ferry you can see incredible views of landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, and the San Francisco skyline, as well as lesser known sites like East Brother Lighthouse and San Pablo Bay. You’ll also see wildlife like cormorants, seals, and occasionally even a whale.

Bikes, Boards and Scooters Welcome
Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards are welcome on all San Francisco Bay Ferry vessels. Electric versions of these devices are also allowed, but cannot be charged on the ferry under any circumstances. Large motorized bikes and scooters are prohibited. All bikes must be stowed in designated areas. Gas-powered bikes, scooters, or mo-peds are not allowed under any circumstances.

Concessions
SF Bay Ferry provides concessions on most departures. Snacks and drinks (including beer, wine and mixed drinks) are available. You can also bring outside food and non-alcoholic beverages on board. Outside alcoholic beverages cannot be consumed on board due to state law.

Disabled Passenger Access
All ferries are accessible for passengers with disabilities, and our deckhands are happy to assist any passenger who requests help. Wheelchairs and similar mobility devices are welcome. There are designated accessible spaces and seats onboard the main deck of every ferry. Need help finding an accessible space? Ask a deckhand.

Free Wi-Fi
Free wireless internet is available on all regular San Francisco Bay Ferry vessels. Passengers can get work done on their commute or access digital content for their ride.

Clean Restrooms
All regular San Francisco Bay Ferry vessels feature clean, accessible restrooms. Look for signage on board the vessels to find them.
