Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle Remains Suspended Through At Least August 16

ALAMEDA, Calif. – San Francisco Bay Ferry, the City of Alameda, and the Alameda Transportation Management Agency (TMA) today announced that the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle will be suspended through at least Sunday, August 16, due to mechanical issues.

Last week, Woodstock, the 31-passenger pontoon boat serving the route connecting Alameda Landing and Oakland’s Jack London Square, suffered multiple equipment malfunctions that rendered two separate engines unusable. Replacement engines have been identified and will arrive in the Bay Area in the coming days. Service will resume following installation and thorough testing.

No passengers were on board Woodstock when the equipment malfunctions occurred. The service has been suspended since Wednesday, August 5. Since its launch in July 2024, the route has operated on 576 of its scheduled 591 days (97%).

Travelers are encouraged to use SF Bay Ferry’s Alameda Short Hop or AC Transit Line 96 until the Water Shuttle resumes service. AC Transit lines 19, 30, and 51A also connect West Alameda to Downtown Oakland. Travelers are also encouraged to subscribe to BayAlerts for the latest information on the service by visiting sfbf.mobi/bayalerts.

The partners recently announced a two-year extension of the Water Shuttle following a two-year pilot that exceeded projections. The service recently broke ridership records for a week (4,512 passengers the week of July 27) and in a single day (1,097 passengers on August 2). During the coming year, the partners will conduct a long-term feasibility study to evaluate how a robust, reliable service could continue in the future.
