VOTE on the names for our newest ferries. 

Students from across the Bay Area submitted nearly 300 name nominations for the the next two ferries joining the San Francisco Bay Ferry fleet, which we expect to arrive in 2025 and 2026. After consideration by the San Francisco Bay Ferry team, the final list is now open for a public vote, which closes Monday, June 24. Let us know your favorite name in the form below. The finalists are: 

AMPHITRITE

"She is the queen of the sea." -- Nominated by Kaya (5th grade) and LN (11th grade)

AQUARIUS

"Aquarius means 'water bearer.'" -- Nominated by Loisulu (5th grade) and Katie (5th grade)

BAY GULL

"It's fun." -- Nominated by Jules (1st grade) 

BELUGA

"Beluga whales are cute." -- Nominated by Ariana (8th grade) 

CHOWDER

"This is a classic dish San Francisco is known for." -- Nominated by Brett (6th grade) 

DUNGENESS

"This species of crab is harvested in the Bay Area." -- Nominated by Jeremy (5th grade) 

FARALLON

"The islands off San Francisco you can just barely see on clear days." -- Nominated by Christina (5th grade) and Hayden (12th grade)

GOLD RUSH

"Because of California's gold history." -- Nominated by Brittney (7th grade) and Conor (6th grade)

KARL

"Karl the Ferry would be at home cruising through the fog." -- Nominated by Sean (10th grade) 

MELROSE

"The original Melrose ferry operated from 1909-1931 and was the first automobile ferry in the bay." -- Nominated by Matt (12th grade) 

PAINTED LADY

"It references a cultural attraction associated with the Bay Area." -- Nominated by Noah (3rd grade) 

ZALOPHUS

"It is the scientific name of the California Sea Lions which are famous in SF Harbor." -- Nominated by Reed (Kindergarten)
