Sea Change Hydrogen Ferry Demonstration Project

Sea Change Hydrogen Ferry Demonstration Project

Welcome aboard Sea Change, the world’s first commercial hydrogen fuel-cell powered ferry.

The Sea Change Hydrogen Ferry Demonstration Project was a 6-month operational pilot during 2024. The state-of-the-art vessel operated special trips on SF Bay Ferry’s Pier 41 Short Hop route. The pilot has ended, but stay tuned for more opportunities to ride Sea Change.

The MV Sea Change is owned by SWITCH Maritime, and was developed by the company with support from a grant provided by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

The pilot service was made possible thanks to sponsorships from a group of partners including Chevron New Energies; the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District; and United Airlines and is operated by San Francisco Bay Ferry’s contract operator, Blue & Gold Fleet.
