San Francisco Bay Ferry Announces ‘Richmond Free Ferry Friday’ Promotion For Rest of 2024
SAN FRANCISCO | October 30, 2024 – San Francisco Bay Ferry today announced it will offer free service on its Richmond route on Fridays for the remainder of 2024. The "Richmond Free Ferry Friday" promotion begins November 1.
"SF Bay Ferry is the highest rated transit service in the country, and we know it usually only takes one trip to turn someone into a loyal ferry rider," said Seamus Murphy, Executive Director of SF Bay Ferry. "We're looking forward to Free Ferry Fridays creating many more of those loyal riders on our Richmond service."
SF Bay Ferry offers 26 weekday trips connecting Richmond and the Ferry Building in Downtown San Francisco. The ride is 35 minutes. No reservations are required. Normal fares are $4.70 each way per passenger, or $2.30 for youth, senior and disabled passengers. Children under five always ride free.
The Richmond Free Ferry Friday promotion is funded by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA). Richmond ferry service is supported by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority’s local sales tax measure.
"CCTA is proud to provide funding for the SF Bay Ferry's free rides from Richmond to San Francisco, which encourages people to consider alternative transportation options that are practical, safe and fun," said Tim Haile, Executive Director of the CCTA. "Initiatives like this support the economic vitality of the entire Bay Area by reducing congestion, improving mobility, and fostering greater regional connectivity – and of course, there's just something special about seeing the Bay from the deck of a ferry."
