Q: When and where will construction take place?
Construction will take place in the south basin of the downtown terminal at the Ferry Building from mid-May 2017 to 2019.

Q: What are the construction hours?
Typically, construction will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work is permitted to go to 8 p.m. should overtime be needed to complete a part of the project.

Q: What sort of construction will take place?

During the initial construction phase between May and November 2017, construction work will include demolition to remove existing piers and concrete, dredging of bay silt, and pile driving of 153 piles into the bay using vibratory hammers. The vibratory hammers may cause some vibration to the surrounding neighborhood. During the second phase of construction from January - December 2019, the two new gates will be built and concrete will be laid on the pier over the lagoon to create more space for public access.

Q: Will ferry routes or schedules be affected by construction?
No. All four WETA ferry routes through the downtown terminal will continue to run as scheduled throughout construction.

Q: Will public access be affected by construction?
Public access will remain as open as possible throughout construction. A limited portion of sidewalk space around the lagoon has been fenced off and a few park benches and bike racks will be removed from the enclosed space.

Q: Will construction impact the Ferry Building farmers’ market?
The Saturday farmers’ market at the Ferry Building will remain fully open throughout all stages of construction. The construction site and hours will not impact merchant stalls or public areas during the farmers’ market.
